What changed

  • Session export. You can now export sessions as HTML with an interactive viewer (#11977).
  • First-run setup. The first-time configure flow now asks you to pick a goose mode (#12629).
  • Extension leases. Every extension operation now goes through a lease, and extensions are resolved into a per-inference lease (#12723, #12161). Goose now treats a client's extension selection as the exact set for the session (#12548). The notes don't explain what this changes for users beyond the item titles.
  • Subagents. Foreground subagents now run inside the state machine loop (#12632). The product site describes subagents as a way to run tasks in parallel while keeping the main conversation clean.
  • Models and providers. This release adds adaptive thinking for Claude Sonnet and Haiku 5.5 (#12761), hyphenated GPT 6.1 Sol effort aliases (#12689) and detection of vision support (#12594). It also refreshes revoked GitHub Copilot tokens (#12616, #12627).
  • Removed. Nostr session sharing is removed from goose core (#12453).

The release also upgrades Rust to 1.99.0, and the Windows npx wrapper now uses a system Node.js.

Questions

Does v1.54.0 remove anything? Yes. The release notes include "Remove Nostr session sharing from goose core." The cited sources don't say whether the feature is available anywhere else.

Which model changes ship in this release? According to the release notes, the model changes are:

  • adaptive thinking for Claude Sonnet and Haiku 5.5
  • support for hyphenated GPT 6.1 Sol effort aliases
  • a fix for session naming and "none" reasoning effort failing with gpt-6.1-sol
  • detection of vision support

How does Goose connect to tools and models? The product site says Goose connects to 70+ extensions through the Model Context Protocol. It also says Goose works with 15+ providers, using API keys or existing Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini subscriptions via ACP. The cited sources don't give any pricing.
