The Goose project released v1.55.0 on October 16, 2026. The update focuses on provider integrations, agent execution and observability rather than introducing a new coding model.
Provider and tracing changes
Goose adds an AIgateway declarative provider and carries W3C trace context from ACP prompts through to MCP tool calls. Provider request IDs are surfaced on responses and errors, giving operators another identifier to correlate when investigating a failed request.
For OpenAI integrations, the notes describe using live reasoning-model metadata and preferring the Responses API. Custom providers' declared vision support is now respected. None of these changes establishes that every provider supports the same capabilities.
Agent lifecycle changes
Subagents are bound by their parent's hooks, execution mode and approvals. The update also avoids inference or steering while a tool approval is waiting, finishes pending tools before enforcing the turn limit and changes Stop to end a run while saving its output.
The same release removes background subagents and the orchestrator and makes Doctor session-only. Existing automation should be checked for reliance on those removed behaviors rather than assuming the update only adds features.
Auto-compaction now has a default cap of 225,000 tokens. That is a compaction setting, not a promise of a model's supported context length.
License and limits
The tagged repository is Apache-2.0 licensed. That covers the software, not free model-provider usage. The release notes do not establish a bundled inference allowance, and this report makes no measured speed or quality claim.
